ACUPUNCTURE DURING PREGNANCY

Acupuncture can be successfully used for a wide range of imbalances and offers you a safe effective choice of drug free treatment.  Treatment is provided for;

ACUPRESSURE IN LABOUR

Acupressure can be used during labour for pain relief and to smooth the  labour. 

ANXIETY AND FATIGUE 

This occurs usually as a complication of energy and blood depletion and responds well to acupuncture and herbal treatment.

BACK PAIN 

Back pain can be reduced with acupuncture during pregnancy,  consultation with your GP or midwife may be necessary to check for other causes.

 

BIRTH PREPARATION

Four weeks prior to expected delivery treatment to prepare the pelvis and cervix is advised. This is followed by one treatment per week until labour commences. Research shows that this leads to a less complicated delivery.  In Germany these treatments are performed in hospitals as standard practice for Labour Preparation.

BREECH POSITION

When your baby is not in the best position prior to birth ie. breech or posterior position, a technique is applied by your acupuncturist to encourage the baby into optimal position for NVD.  The success rate for this is around 70%.

INSOMNIA 

There can be a number of causes for pregnancy insomnia, this must be differentiated by a professional acupuncturist to ensure most effective treatment is given. Often treatment is combined with a range of self help advice.

HYPERTENSION 

Acupuncture is well known for it's ability to balance hypertension.  Specific treatments tailored to the individual are designed to bring this under control.

 

INDUCTIONS

Acupuncture for Inductions is an effective drug free alternative to assist you and your baby into the natural transition of childbirth.  The number of treatments required varies between 1-4 and are required in quick succession.

INSUFFICIENT LACTATION

Acupuncture is a very effective treatment for insufficient lactation.  When  the body is in a weakened or depleted state, it may not have enough resources to supply  sufficient amount of breast milk to meet the demands.  Consult your TCM practitioner for acupuncture and or herbs to nourish, stregthen and balance  your system.

MORNING SICKNESS 

Acupuncture is very effective in reducing both the severity and incidence of nausea and vomiting. Treatment is based on your individual differential diagnosis. AVAILABLE NOW   $30 acupuncture treatment for morning sickness.

POST-NATAL DEPRESSION 

This is a sign that the energy of the mother has been damaged during pregnancy and labour, she will need specific treatment to assist in rebalancing her energies. 

POST-NATAL TREATMENT

Pregnancy and labour depletes a woman's qi and blood, it is important to nourish these after birth. This can be achieved by careful attention to diet, tonifying acupuncture treatments and herbal tonics.  You will be guided as to what is most appropriate for you based on your differential diagnosis, recommendations regarding diet and self help will also be made.

BACK PAIN

In Chinese Medicine back pain is often indicative of a deficiency in kidney energy - the kidneys govern the lower back, bones & teeth. The brain is the outpouring of the kidney.. A deficiency of kidney qi, yin or yang may require  strengthening with herbs and acupuncture. 

Causative factors of your back pain are best differentiated and diagnosed by your acupuncturist, referral for physiotherapy, osteopathic or chiropractic treatment may be advised. 

Pressure on the sciatic nerve is also common in pregnancy, acupuncture and acupressure is great for tonifying energy or relaxing the muscles and tissues which may be constricting the flow of energy and leading to pain.  The experienced acupuncturists at Nikau Room are able to determine the most appropriate treatment and action this for your relief.

THREATENED MISCARRIAGE

If there is a prior history of miscarriage, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine offers treatment to help prevent this. If there are indications of threatened miscarriage there are some emergency acupuncture procedures that may be used.

URINARY INCONTINENCE

In conjunction with pelvic floor exercises sometimes additional treatment is required to help heal the pelvic floor muscles. Acupuncture and or Chinese herbs to strengthen the system will enable the woman to return to normal faster.
